Summer is officially here, although the UK has not experienced much sun as of late. There have been short spells here and there but overall, it has been a wet summer in London, so there hasn’t been much chance of a picnic in the capital. 

Everybody loves a picnic, especially with the little ones. The benefit of London is that there are plenty of green spaces where you can perch on a grass patch to enjoy the sun's rays. 

Alexandra Palace Park 

Alexandra Palace is a popular spot all year round but during the summer, the park is a great spot to enjoy a picnic with friends and family. Alexandra Palace is a common place for a music venue however, with the seven acres of grassland, there is plenty of space in this fantastic park. With what seems to be endless fields and a vast range of colours with their flowers, this is a great spot. It also has a boating lake so you can watch something as you enjoy your picnic. Then once you have finished eating, head up the hill so you can look across to the capital and see stunning panoramic views. 

Primrose Hill

For more stunning picnic views, Primrose Hill is next on the list. Just like Alexandra Palace, you can see the capital of the London skyline. However, it isn’t just the skyline that you absorb. To see wonderful views of Camden, Regents Canal, Abbey Road and even animals at London Zoo, all you need to do is head towards the top of the peak of Primrose Hill. It is one of the best views in London where you can see almost everything. 

Kew Gardens

Although this is not a free park you can casually visit, it is a well-looked-after park that offers you plenty of shade if you wish to eat your food out of the sun. Once you have finished eating, you can visit the Temperate House which has over 1,200 species of plants. This is an environment that everybody has to experience once in their life to witness the wide range of vegetation from all over the world. 

Soho Square

If you want to enjoy a picnic in the city centre, there is no place like Soho Square. You can guarantee this spot to be very popular in the summer months so make sure you get there nice and early. Additionally, there isn’t much room so it can soon be overcrowded, however, if you want a busy London area and enjoy the summer vibes of Londoners, this is the perfect place for just that. Furthermore, on the outskirts of the park, you are surrounded by colourful flowers so ensure you take your antihistamine if you have hay fever. 

One of the benefits of Soho is that if you haven’t brought food with you because of your spontaneous trip there, all you need to do is wander around Soho as there are plenty of places to eat. 

Hyde Park

One of London’s most iconic parts of London is Hyde Park. All you need to do is head to a local Hyde Park parking spot and bring all of your picnic gear with you. Whether that is a cooling box and blanket or a portable charcoal barbecue, you have endless options for your picnic at Hyde Park. This is another great spot because of the mass amount of land and you can be certain that many Londoners and tourists will be here when it is sunny.
